How are social media sites representative of multimodal communication? Provide an example. What is the value of multimodal communication versus single mode communication? Think about a hypothetical situation when an author uses too
many modalities to get his or her point across. What issue (or issues) do you
assume would occur and why?
Social media is definitely multimodal Communication. Say instagram for example, you can use text and pictures or use a video to incorporate sound. It most deffinitely has multiple ways it speaks to people.
ReplyDeleteIn this hypothetical situation the audience member is likely to be bomnbarded by different senses and will skip through to the next post. This would not be what the poster intended. I hope..
Social media sites are very popular when it comes to multimodal communication for example, this year’s election. Any social media site you went on, you can find text, video, pictures, articles about the election, the candidates who ran. As the audience, writer, and message, it is all there. Social media is diverse, definitely different ways to speak to people. Versus a single mode communication, you are limited, can’t get more than one story, one article, and maybe one source.
ReplyDeleteHypothetical situation, the audience streaming on social media definitely got bombarded with the election. Everywhere you turn; there was something about the election. The only real issue would be people being ugly to one another, because of everyone’s different political view, maybe people being banned from center sites. Or even some people going to the extreme and trying to cause cyber bullying, harm, etc.…

Social media can have a direct impact on many audiences in different ways. A slogan, meme, video or a pictorial are all forms of multimodal communication depending when, where and how you use them. What is interesting is being the way these audiences perceive this type of communication. One of the well known multimodal forms of communication would be a "Don't Drink and Drive" video. Not only do these types of videos use text but they also incorporate music and many visual affects. The author, publisher or the marketing director behind these videos do a good job when grasping the attention of their audiences.
ReplyDeleteThe value of multimodal communication versus single mode communication is the outreach. I agree with Stephanie on this, the presidential election was a great demonstration of this type of source. The campaigns led by the nominees used almost every bit of multimodal communication to reach out to many sorts of audiences.
Hypothetically speaking, an author could use news reporters, social media sites, blogs and bill boards to sell the idea that vehicles should come equipped with a school zone function that will not allow your car to go over the posted speed limit. Assuming that many if not all would agree, for the safety of the children, not everyone will see eye to eye. Audiences will take pieces of information gathered from these types of communications and form their own perspective of things, which would lead into differences in opinions. Some may argue that it could be a safety risk, emergency of sort which would lead into a possible social debate not intended for the sole purpose of the idea.

Social media is basically what multimodal communication is. It goes from messaging to posting posts, text, videos and pictures. Multimodal communication is the main way that most people use to talk to others.
ReplyDeleteHypothetical situation: An author uses social media sites, links, and memes to get their point on abortion having more laws against it. From there, there would be a lot of criticism rise from it.

Social media sites are representatives of multimodal communication because they are multiple modes of communication. Multimodal communication is a multiple way of communication in combination of audio, images, text and video. Facebook, Twitter, Wikipedia, Blog; Instagram, and other social networking are examples of Social media. Multimodal communication is the use of two or more communication modes to convey ideas to the public for example image, gestures, audio, spoken language, text and videos. Basically, multimodal communication combines graphics, audio, text and movies to interact with the users.
ReplyDeleteIn single-mode communication, the public uses only the voice and audio or visual modes while in multimodality applications gives the users multiple options for sending out information that is (inputting) and obtaining information that is: (receiving). In the videos the subtitle gives the audience the clarity for the movie actions. The single mode method is used to engage the audience or the users; at the same time pass vivid information across with clarity, and persuade the audience thereby keeping them focused on the point of view of the author. It also directs the users to come up with their opinion using their five senses without being confused.
Multimodal communication in other hand do drive the point across to the user but due to many pictures or modes involve, the audience can be misled, distracted, confused, fatigued and judgment impaired. For instant on the debate of a controversial issues like abortion, gay marriage and Legalization of drug usage in America. Arguments may arise, brain storm on the pros and cons can lead to superficial contributions with missed opinions.

Snapchat is one of the many forms of social media that's a representative of multimodal communication because there's a combination of words with images and videos.
ReplyDeleteA versus single mode communication is a single form of communication reaching to there audiences.
when an author uses to many modalities to get his or her point across. They end up confusing there audience on the message the author is trying to make. Or even sometimes might send the wrong point across due to the confusion its very misleading.

Social media has an impact on all ages and audiences in many ways. Facebook is one of multimodal communication thats popular today as people share a quote, a thought, a picture, video; the list goes on.
ReplyDeleteIf an Author, Doctor, or Vendor use social media sites, links, and memes to get their point across and say the message could be manipulated as people respond to comments at the end a picture or word could be misunderstood.

i believe social media is a multimodal communication that targets all types of people and ages. It is multimodal because they have many ways for the people to communicate with others. Such as posts Direct messages , audio messages video messages and many more.

Social media is definitely a multimodal communication such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Whatsapp and Twitter. Nowadays, people of all ages have access to it or have profiles of form of communication. People create profiles in social media to communicate with other people and family that live in another parts of the world, and it makes it easier for them to talk to them through video, pictures or voice call.
ReplyDeleteIn single-mode communication limits people and only uses the voice and audio or visual modes.
-Andrea Orozco
Social media is a great multimodal communication system. You have snap chat Facebook Instagram twitter whisper and much more. Anything you can think of is on social media picturesites videos it is so much better than single mode because single mode you can't express as much as multi can. Single mode limits you to a certain amount whereas multi doesn't.
ReplyDeleteSocial media sites rely on text and images or video, an example would be Snapchats, which are images or video with text on them. Multimodal caters to more types of learners/people who take in information different ways. Some issues that may come up when an author uses too many modalities would be conflicting views, overload of types of information, and taking the focus away from any individual modality.
ReplyDeleteI personally think social media is one of the best ways to use multimodal communication. You can post a paragraph about something that happened at work and have a picture depicting someone with their hands on their face, as if they are disgusted. That is an excellent form of multimodal communication. This years election has also been all over social media with all types of multimodal communication whether it be for or against the president.
ReplyDeleteSingle mode communication is boring and does not always get the intended audience commenting or interested. Adding videos or music to what you have to say is always going to help get more of the attention you are seeking for any particular subject.
Using too many pictures or videos takes away from what you are trying to say. It completely confuses the reader. I had a friend post against abortion recently on social media and used very graphic photos. There were at least a minimum of 10 pictures and all she said was, "Don't kill the babies!!!!" That was not a good way to bring any attention to her cause. No one, including myself, wants to see those pictures on social media. While I do sympathize with her cause, had she posted a paragraph with maybe a less graphic picture or a video with sad music I would have paid a little more attention. To me it was just too much for social media or any audience. That is just my personal opinion.

I'm kind of glad we had to post here. I was not aware of this blog I posted under the name Texas Talker. I do not remember doing it, yet I still agree with my opinion. Although using images would have most definitely helped make my point. Just something funny I only just noticed.

Social media is a multimodal communication because you can do many things on it.
ReplyDeleteFor example, Facebook is a multimodal communication because you can post videos, pictures, and texts. These are all ways to explain or grab peoples attention. Something that was a hypothetical situation would be all the social medias posting things about Donald Trump when he was being accused of being disrespectful to women. This caused issues of people arguing because they had different views on what was happening.
Samantha Welch
Social media is a form of multimodal communication because it uses words, pictures, videos, and sounds as a means to communicate a message. Instagram is a prime example of multimodal communication because there are tons of photos and videos on Instagram. Multimodal communication would spread a message better than single mode communication. However if an author uses too many modalities, it could overwhelm a reader with too much information.
ReplyDelete-Travis Hutchison
The number one way of multimodal communication is social media. The most popular ones would be Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. A status you post on Facebook is a piece of your life or mind you’re sharing, and Instagram is an image point of view of your interest and life as well. Many influences take place on social media as well. Such as the election and the evets that took place afterwards, a crisis happening around the world, or form of movement going on.
ReplyDeleteIssue when modalities are used too much by an author to get his point across would be criticism, people may not like modalities they use; arguments; others may share their thoughts and others my disagree and sometimes it can get out of hand, and simply the overwhelming fact of seeing the same thing or something similar repeatedly may cause someone to remove the author of social media or dislike them.
-Edward Chaidez
Social media is a form of multimodal communication because you can do multiple things on them. For example, Twitter is a multimodal communication because you can post pictures, videos, tweet about what you're doing, or even message others. Something that was a hypothetical situation would be all the social medias that posted about beyonce performing at the Country music awards, people were furious with the CMAS they didnt like how they had beyonce performing, others thought it was great. People were just arguing about the situation that was going down.

Multimodal communication is not only a part of social media, but it has consumed a major portion of America. Americans have gotten to a point where it is considered boring and ineffective to communicate without using multimodal communication. We are able to access multiple apps at our fingertips, including: Facebook, Pinterest, snapchat, twitter, Skype, etc. These are all forms of multimodal communication. The scariest part is that with this new generation, the effect of social media will consume us all.
ReplyDeleteSocial media is a form of multimodal communication because it expresses words in pictures, videos to give a vivid understanding. Instagram,Facebook and Snapchat are social network programs that are used to provide communication. A hypothetical situation was used in the elections when Donald Trump wanted to build the wall. There were many people who support his statement.

Multi modal communication is the use of text and pictures rather than just text alone. The advent of social media allows people a steady stream of videos, text and pictures that create an environment where the authors can use this to sway opinions or generate ideas. Research has shown that the human brain will retain information, on average, 32% better when it is presented in a multi modal way. If this holds true one can say that in order to make a message stick out or be remembered social media is the new go to method. Social media, as with anything, can be used too excess. When someone is bombarded with the same message over and over we can become callused and numb to the entirety of the presented narrative. One prevalent example of this was the past presidential election. This election cycle was one where social media was used to the fullest. This bombardment of multi modal messages led to an over saturation and tuning out of the populous. As a result by the end of the election a staggering 75% of Americans were saying that they would just be happy to have it over with, regardless of the outcomes.

Social Medias can have multimodal communication, depending on the app, you can have different multimodal options and combos. You can communicate by either text, video, audio, and images. Snapchat is an example of multimodal communication. You can take pictures, add text, and take video. You can also share it with specific people or everyone in your friends list. When too many modes are used it creates a distraction from the message trying to be communicated.
ReplyDelete-Siarah Rodriguez
Social media is a multimodal communication, examples can be twitter, facebook, snapchat and instagram. You can go live on facebook and stream what you are doing (for example attending a popular event). It also allows you to communicate with friends and family that are miles away. Now some issues can occur when social media becomes something we rely on all the time and when we make it our reality. We cant make it something to depend on.
