What are your thoughts on procrastination? Dive deep! Everyone knows that procrastination adds stress to people's lives, yet procrastination seems to happen in people's academic lives, personal lives, and professional lives.
The Snowball Effect creeps up on people who procrastinate. If someone gets behind on a project or a set of tasks, the overwhelming feeling can cause him or her to have that mental or emotional meltdown, which causes the thought that nothing can be done to get caught up. This happens for many online learners. Again, people know this outcome will arrive if they procrastinate, but they continue to do things later instead of now. (I'll do it tomorrow...)
How can we utilize concepts in chapter four of our textbook to understand the cycle of procrastination, stop falling into the trap of procrastination, and become good managers of our time?
I feel that procrastination is something that can be avoided, but most people choose to continue to put it off because it's something that is dreaded. With me, I typically will put off the assignments that I like the most, and do the ones that I enjoy. I will typically catch myself doing my math homework and doing better on my math exams/quizzes because it's a subject that I enjoy and English is something that I don't typically enjoy so anything that requires a lot of writing is something that I will put off to the last minute.
ReplyDeleteIn chapter 4, I truly enjoyed the 32-day commitment and feel that this could be very beneficial for myself and predicament to become a better student since I live off my job by an Agenda. I know what needs to be done, and making sure that I spread it out instead of lumping it all, and creating a stressful situation would help me in all my courses. When you have a busy work schedule, and then having online courses, where you are trying to teach yourself the material can be difficult so time management becomes a learning process, having an agenda by day would keep yourself in line on seeking out the priorities.

Procrastination is a horrible trait to have. By procrastinating, you are slowing yourself down, and not getting things done. Many people procrastinate and then do their work last minute. By doing important things last minute, they are not being done to their full potential. The common analogy is with the rolling of a small ball of snow down a snow-covered hillside. As it rolls the ball will pick up more snow, gaining more mass and surface area, and picking up even more snow and momentum as it rolls along. You can interpret that with procrastination. You may not go to class one day, and then the next week you skip school twice, etc. Everything is a cycle, so you have to make sure you're going down a good path and make good choices.
ReplyDeleteWhat I found to be more than likely most beneficial when it comes to procrastination is the "Next Actions List". On here will be a list of things that need to be done as soon as possible. I think that if more people had a next actions list set up, they would be more organized, and wouldn't slack off as much.

Procrastination is not something recommended for anyone in the working field or in school. It's also a habit that no one should have or think its a good back up plan. Waiting till the last minute to complete an assignment is not a good way to go about your school work or job. If you procrastinate your setting yourself up for future problems because if you do it now then it will most likely get worse. It will just keep getting worse and worse and could cause you to do bad in school and in your job. The stress that comes along with procrastinating can be harmful and can also affect you in the class rom and in social life. Another negative thing that comes along with it is that it can lower the potential your assignment has, if you rush to finish you could miss some instruction or do something wrong. Your better off doing the assignment a couple days before the due dat and not the day before that way you can do the best you can on it and get a good grade. You want to avoid procrastinating the best you can because once to do it one time , it could lead to you doing it again and again. No one should think that procrastinating is a good back up plan and will get them the best grade possible.

Procrastinating is a bad habit. I admit I do it sometimes. I don't like to do it but sometimes other things distract me and I end up doing this at the last minute, or not doing them at all. If we do this it will reflect on our grades, and we will end up either failing or dropping the class. We stress so much when we procrastinate because we want to do an essay for example at the very end. And we get frustrated because we are thinking we have to finish fast enough to turn it. We don't put much thought into our paper. I really like the 32 day challenge. This will keep us focused. This will later become a habit that we will do it with out even knowing. I will apply this challenge into my reading. reading things twice is always a good thing because we get stuff we didn't get the first time we read it.

To me Procrastination is something everyone does because it seems like the easiest way out, but in reality its only making things harder on us. sometimes when we say were going to do something later and then later forget. Procrastination can cause us to fail at school or lose our job from not doing the work that needs be done. self-discipline is defiantly something you need in self-management because without it you can become lazy. The to help me the most with self-management is the next action step list, this helps me to put the work that needs to be done from the hardest to the easiest, allowing me to have a less stressful week and to get my challenges out of the way.

I feel as though procrastination is the laziness state of mind in which drives you to put off something that needs to be done, but you disregard the consequences and decide not to do it anyways. People say they will do the hard work later, but for most later never comes. They then begin to feel under more pressure and stress to the point where they just completely give up all around. Procrastination to me is the cause of most peoples failures in not only school, but all aspects of life. The best thing to do is just the work out of the way so that way it takes away from your stress, sadly I had to learn this the hard way, but everyone does at some point. In chapter four of our text books it talks a lot about procrastination and ways we can improve our work and time management skill. We can utilize this information by by simply using a monthly calendar or even use the thirty two day method. Anything truly helps when it comes to procrastination you could even come up with your own way to solve time management. One thing that I like to tell myself is the only true failures are the ones who do not try.

I believe that procrastination is a very addictive habit to have because once you have that habit of procrastination it is very hard to break. I feel that when you put off something ( procrastinating ) and do something more desirable or what until the last minute that, is a sign of laziness, and if you procrastinate in school you will most likely not turn in the assignments on time and that can lead to failing that class and if you procrastinate at work you will get fired. You can never be truly successful in life if you procrastinate through it. And I think you can't be as confident and motivated in yourself if you procrastinate.
ReplyDeleteI think I can utilize the concepts in chapter four by working harder to improve myself and not give into that voice that says "you can do it in an hour" because I know if I put things off until the next hour or later I will most likely not do it or I will be staying up very late doing that thing. I think I can put all of the timesheets in to great use to help me with my future scheduling and so it will be easier not to procrastinate on the things I need to be doing. Chapter four really made me step back and see what I could improve on and what I needed to fix in my scheduling and how I can manage my time more wisely.

Procrastination is hard to avoid at time depending on what kind of life you live. A fulltime employee and parent has the right to put things off. But that's why these types of people must take on a smaller load of classes. You have to be realistic life brings on a million of issues. A fulltime student doesn't have much leeway on this subject. They have all the time in the world cant feel bad for them unless they have medical issues. This chapter has provided me with the leak-proof self-management system which I will use it is very valuable to person such as myself. I work and I'm a parent any good tools to schedule and plan my school work is valuable.

Procrastination is another way of being lazy or isn't it. Well that how it seems to me. I have to admit I do it most of the time and I don't like it. I am a part-time student and part-time worker. I get out late but I still manage to stay up and finish what I can do. Everyone has a different life style. Procrastination is a result of in stress, responsibilities or commitments. That only yourself can stop if you do it as in a daily routine then is going to be harder to stop. Chapter four has gave me good choices on how I can manage my time wisely and help on to stop procrastinating.

I believe procrastination is when we do not want to do a task and set it off until the last minute. It effects our personal and professional lives by adding stress. Why put it off tomorrow if it can get done today? When putting things off till the last minute will just put you in a bigger hole that you are already in. So as soon as the task or assignment is issued it is best to start on it right away. We use the monthly calendar method by visualizing how many days we have to complete tasks to get it done before a due date. Another method we can use is a tracking form that can allowing you visualize if you really completed the task each day for a certain amount of time. These methods will get you to complete your task on time and procrastination will be the last thing you need to do.

Procrastination is a horrible habit yet we almost all seem to have. Sometimes we don't even mean to procrastinate but it happens; its called being lazy. You are not getting things done on time and everything starts to add up and you begin to get frustrated and stressed. If we don’t fix it now it is going to get a lot worse; we will never learn to do things on time when they are supposed to be done. All the stress that procrastination brings to you could also be very harmful and can affect you in many bad ways. It is always better to be ahead than behind; as soon as you now what your assignment is you should do it. Chapter four informs and helps you on how to use your time wisely and prevent procrastination.

Procrastination very difficult to avoid. People procrastinate so much that they don't even know they are procrastinating. When ever a assignment is due we will always tend to do it last minute, because we are lazy. Putting things off till the last minute will just make things worst. It is always best to do the assignments before the due dates.

Procrastination is something that everybody does. I feel like it is something that can be very hard to overcome. Some people are just so used to doing it that they dont even realize it. But with others, they know they have to get something done but they have something "better" and "funner" to do. So they put it off, and before they realize it its time for it to be done. This causes people to stress because then they are in a hurry to get it done and they do it ll sloppy. Chapter 4 gives us great tips on how to try to avoid procrastination. And on how to manage our time wisely. Its better to get something done quick and not procrastinate because then you will have more free time on your hands and nothing to worry about.

Procrastination is a habit that a lot of new college students have. I think that the reason why so many students do this is because they are just coming out of high school and are completely unprepared for college. In some extreme cases procrastination just becmes an addiction and students are unaware of what they are doing. Procrastination can effect our grades but it can also affect our bodies. Recently I talked to my doctor about some really painful and re accruing headaches. He asked and I procrastinated and I said yes sometimes I do. He advised me not to anymore because when we do that it makes our brain muscles tense causing the headaches. In chapter 4 we are given advise on how to stop procrastination. I have found that the one that works the best for me is listing what to do. Planning never worked out for me and I would always try and be against it. So with this example it is important not only to make sure you do you r work but to find out what works for someone

My thoughts on procrastination is that we all have experienced it and I think because we do not know how to manage our time we hit that hole where we procrastinate that by the time we realize we just have a couple of hours to do what we need to do and hit crunch time and that's when the stress starts to come in that you just want to quit. I think that if we are more responsible about how we manage our time and prioritize the more important thing we wont procrastinate and not have any stress.
