Interdependence

We are taught from a young age to be independent. We even develop a mantra: "I can do it all by myself!"

After reading chapter five of our textbook, we know that interdependence is the more mature way to live life.

Is it easy for you to ask for help, or is it difficult? Dive deep!

  1. There are many different ways that people relate to one another in and outside of relationships. Some people in intimate relationships maintain a lot of independence, while others may become co-dependent, which means one person puts the other person's needs consistently ahead of their own. Having interdependence in a relationship is most likely the healthiest form of an intimate relationship. It is very good to have interdependence in a work place, because although everyone may be different, everyone should be able to find a way to work well together.
When it comes to me asking for help, it can go many ways. It all usually just depends on who ever it is I have the question for. When I am surrounded by easy going people, I tend to feel more comfortable, which isn't a big deal if I have a question or need help. If I am working with, or have an intimidating professor, I usually keep to myself. I feel like if I ask them something they will look at me ugly. So honestly, I have no problem asking or needing help, it all just depends on what environment I am put in and who I'm around.

Although I do like to do things on my own and learn thing for myself, when I know I need help I have no problem asking for help. I believe that help from others can benefit you in many ways because the way they do something and the way you do something will be different but it could be a easier and more efficient way to do the task. Which is why I also believe in interdependence, life is so much easier when you have people helping you and giving you advice, in my opinion.

  3. It is hard for me to ask for help with new people. For example this is me fist year in college and I do not know a lot of people here. Since this is an online class it is even harder to know people. I will be comfortable to ask for help in a class after maybe two or three weeks. After I have met and socialized with classmates. I will then ask them for their phone numbers or emails, then I will try to form a study group. It is important to ask questions when we do not understand something. Others may have the same doubt but may be to shy to ask. The more we ask questions the more we will understand what the instructor is talking about.

  4. I believe that at at first in a new setting it is always difficult to ask for good effective help, but I also believe over time it becomes easier to ask someone for help after getting used to the people you are around. The only way you can get comfortable asking for help is through social interaction. If you do not interact socially then the less likely chances you are to finding good help from others. People tend to assume it shows a sign of weakness or lack of intelligence by asking for help, but in reality it is one of the smartest things you can do, especially when you do not know something. It may seem embarrassing at first, but after you get used to asking for help it begins t get much easier and you start to understand things from a whole new perspective. Now this doe not go by saying get so much help to where you are not even the one doing your work, but if you have a question or do not understand fully on a subject it is most definitely okay to get help, because other wise how would you learn the material? No one on this earth knows everything, but you can always gain a much better sense of knowledge by getting help on the things you do not quite understand and the only person who can make it hard is yourself.

  5. Before asking for assistance I always try to do things on my own for my own good. Therefore it is a little difficult for me to ask for help not only because I can be shy but because I prefer to learn on my own. Having hands-on experience has always been the best solution for me because it teaches me independence. I’m personally not the kind to rely on others to get something done unless the objective is definitely out of my ability to get it done.

  6. Well as myself when it comes to asking someone for help it has to be someone I know, but if its a new place and people is a little harder for me to ask for assistance. There is another thing if there people that are easy people to talk to I feel comfortable to talk to, also if I can do something on my own I'm not scared to help others. gaining confidence and knowledge is much easier when you ask for help at first it might be a pain but is another step to have social attraction.

  7. It's difficult for me to ask for help, because I really do not want to bother anyone, and because I'm such a private person and keep everything to myself. And because I'm so determined to figure out that problem and learn, that asking for help becomes difficult for me. But I know that with now being in college that when I need help to just ask for help. I'm gradually starting to learn to ask for help from my teachers and the people that are there to help me. With being in college and having to ask for help from my professors I have felt comfortable, and that has brought me out of my zone of stubbornness of not asking for help, and has made asking for help from people so much easier. I use to think that asking for help was me being weak and not trying hard enough and so I wouldn't ask . But over time I have come to know that asking for help was not me being weak, it was me feeling comfortable enough in myself to ask and to be willing enough to learn from someone else and to grow in a way I didn't know. I'm starting to get out of my stubborn habit of not asking for help and just ask. and just remembering that being independent, does not mean I cannot ask for help.

  8. It’s difficult for me because I believe that by being brought up by an independent woman instilled that into my head. She never asked anyone for help or never tried to hunt my father down. She did everything for my siblings and I all by herself. I kind of learned in life you are alone and you take care of what’s yours with what you have. But also it has become a weakness when it comes to helping others and getting help. I try not to ask for help because to me it’s a sign of weakness. But in the real world if you don’t ask for help you will never progress and grow into a subject matter expert in whatever it is you do.

  9. My mom and dad have made me realize how important it is to be independent and that they wont always be there for me when I need them to be. Especially in college I'm sometimes on my own and yea it is hard but learning to be independent is something everyone has to learn in life. We wont always have someone holding our hand, we need to learn to do things on our own. Being independent is something we'll need to do in school and with whatever career we have. Because our employer most like wants someone that can get things done without need help all the time. Being independent also makes us feel good knowing we earned that grade or paycheck on our own without someone always helping.

  10. I think it is difficult to ask for help, because we were taught with the mentality to do things on our own. However interdependence is what works in the real world because all jobs require teamwork so that the business can succeed. Working as a team allows us to split the task that are required. Asking for help is ideal because we can get clear instructions on the required task.

  11. Asking for help is not hard for me to do, because I always like my work to be 110%, however I love to do things on my own because it makes me feel more successful. when I am doing homework and I get stuck on a question I try it maybe three times and then put a circle around it to remind myself to come back and then move on once I am finished I will look over the question and try two more times, if I am not able to succeed I will ask for help. I did the same thing when I had a job. I do not believe anyone should ever feel embarrassed to ask a question because life is full of learning, we will forever learn something new. It is always best to try on your own first but if we become discourage then that is when we should get help.

  12. I find it easy to ask people for help because everyone always comes across something they can not do all by themselves. There is nothing wrong with asking for help, because nobody can do EVERYTHING, and everyone asks for help at one point or another. I dont think that asking someone for help makes you seem weak or like you cant do it, because maybe you can do it your just having a hard time. So i think that if you ever need any help, it is fine to ask for it.

  13. I can be pretty independent and I always try to solve everything with everything I can but if I get stuck and can't just figure out the problem I have no problem asking my peers for help I really like to work in team also so it doesn't bother me to ask for help, I really like to ask a lot of questions and I can get pretty annoying.
