    6. Social media sites are multimodal because they use more than one way of establishing an idea. An example of one way social media is used is through a YouTube video, a person can demonstrate step by step how to do something visually while also adding text to number and have a written description for their video throughout the process.

    8. Social Media sites are multimodal because they have various ways of communicating by using a combination of words, images and sounds. For example on FB people can post their status by using simple words on the other hand they can also use emoticons , or pictures to represent the same status.

    9. Social Media sites are multimodal because they give you a variety of options to express/share whatever it is you feel like sharing! It can range from videos to photos. you can even add links to websites if you want people to check out a particular site you can include a hyperlink. Facebook now has the option where you can LIVE stream a video!

    10. Social Media sites are multimodal because they use different ways to show what you feel to share. They use pictures, videos, and sounds to share what they are going through. There are such things like memes to make fun of people.

    11. Social Media site are multimodel because you can use different forms of communication such as videos, gifs, and audio files. An example is Facebook and how you can post the music you are listening to, or post a funny political video or photo.

  2. What is the value of multimodal texts versus one modality of communication?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The value of multimodal texts is for example, when someone looks at an image by itself with no words in it, the person might not understand its meaning, but when the same person looks at the same image with text, the person might understand it better.

      Mauricio Cordero

    2. With only one mode of communication it is harder to understand and follow the context inteded by the publisher, compared to multimodal texts which can be understood better because the reader will then be more interested in the text with the addition of pictures, for example.
      Miriam Soto

    3. One mode of communication limits the effectiveness of transmitting the message by the author. On the other hand, multimodal texts express the context more effectively by the use of more than one resource.
      Cesar Tello

      Delete
    4. The value of multimodal text is to provide examples or a way of explaining a text further. With just using one modality such as a text, a person can only hope that the reader will be able to visualize what is being read or how things are being said.

      Prentice Tillman

      Delete
    5. The value of multimodal text compared to one modality of communication is that someone can interpret one or more messages faster compared to just one. For example a picture may say more than just words. Pictures and words combine say a lot than just one.

      Delete
    6. The value of multimodal texts versus one modality of communication is that through multimodal texts, the message a person is trying to send is more clear and understandable with the different ways of presenting what they are trying to establish to their audience while with one modality of communication may present, for example, just one picture with no description. This would leave the audience unclear and guessing what the person is trying to tell them through the picture with no text.

      Christopher Cordaway

    7. Multimodal texts tend to be easier to deal with, such as sending many images, or emails, or even text mass text messages and receive reactions of the audience almost instantly versus having to use one modality of communication, for example the book mentions postcards, which can be a hassle to send and receive a reply.

      Delete
    8. The value of multimodal texts if having the ability of communicating in various ways to different people. For example there are verbal communicators and there can be visual communicators, what one may seem easy to comprehend it can be completely the opposite for the other.

      Dolly L Moreno

    9. The value of multimodal texts should work together to send the same message. An image and the text following it should flow together or else there will be a disconnect between the auditory channel processing words and the visual channel processing images. For example childrens books.

    10. The difference is that multimodol and modality is that multimodal is more expressive and makes it easier for the receptor to understand what they are trying to make you understand. While modality it makes it harder because you have to fill in the gaps.

      Erick Resendez

    11. Using multimodol communication makes it easier for both parties to understand and comprehend what is being conveyed. For example, I can post a picture and expect you to know what I am trying to convey, or I can post a picture with text, maybe in internet meme form, and the viewer knows exactly what my intention is.

      Mathew

    12. The value of multimodal text over one modality of communication is that, with multimodal communication there is a chance more people will understand the message.

      Omar Avila

    13. The value of multimodal text over modality of communication is that one person may not understand a picture but when it has a caption they can understand it.

    14. Readers may consume multimodal texts in any order they prefer. It is also an effective educational strategy incorporating multiple communication forms to convey information.

  3. Think about a hypothetical situation when an author uses too many modalities to get his or her point across. What issue (or issues) do you assume would occur and why?

    ReplyDelete

    1. If an author were to use too many modalities to get his or her point across, issues with clarity and confusion could occur because with too many pictures, texts and hyperlinks, this may lead to their reader becoming uninterested in the point. Too many pictures may confuse the reader of what the point is, too much text could immediately turn the reader off of the page right away and too many links may make the reader not want to read and have to click to learn more about a certain subject.

      Christopher Cordaway

    2. When too many modalities are used when trying to persuade a thought or get your point across, it can become an issue as it will not be clear to the audience of what the actual point is.

      Dolly L Moreno

    3. if an author uses to many modalities, the reader may become less interested. You have to remember , a reader only views a page for only a second or two before moving on to something else. You have to hook an audience quickly and then keep them engaged. Too much content can make the web surfer lose interest

    4. one issue that might arise from using to many modalities is that there might be a chance of confusing the reader or not getting your point across correctly.

      Omar Avila

      Delete
    5. If the author decides to use to many modalities it may confuse the reader because their is too many images and videos. It may draw their attention somewhere else and not even care for the subject anymore. The reader can get distracted with all the images and videos and may not even read anymore.

  5. For example, if an author puts up a billboard that reads "Let's ban guns in America", on a town which most of the residents are against gun rights, he is going to have many supporters. Now, put the same advertisement "Let's ban guns in America", in a social media such as Facebook, and you are going to end up with supporters and many people against the campaign.

  8. It would be very misleading and confusing for the readers. It will be hard to understand the main point the author is trying to present because the reader cannot really catch the main point of the idea and might end up interpreting it in a different way.
    Miriam Soto

  9. By using many tools to promote an idea may cause misunderstanding of the actual point of the author.

  10. If an author happens to use too many modalities to get their point across problems that could occur are that the author attracts the wrong audience, what they are saying could being confusing, or what they are trying to say isn't taken properly because of one of the modalities.

    Prentice Tillman

    ReplyDelete
  11. it will be very confusing. For example when the author shows a picture of a Ford track driving hard on a dirt road without any issues and then he compares it with a Toyota truck pulling a load then the Toyota beats the Ford.

    ReplyDelete
  12. It will attract many readers from different points of views, and may lead to author (or publisher) to not be able to keep up with the different opinions being expressed. Another issue is having a response from an audience member who has the potential to report the author and misuse all of the publisher's work as evidence.

    ReplyDelete
  13. What will happen is that the audience will be mislead because too much of something throws you off of what the main idea is. It will make for many different opinions some may be completely opposite of what the point is trying to make.

    Erick Resendez

  14. Using too many modalities can become confusing to the reader. I believe you only need one or two forms. For example, using a picture, text and audio can be overwhelming. It would be difficult for some to read the text, while music or other audio is playing. It becomes distracting and ineffective.

    Mathew

  15. if the author decides to use too many modalities it may confuse the reader because their are too many images and text. It may distract the reader from reader and may not want to finish because of images and videos. They could also get bored because their are too many videos and images.

  16. Social media is multimodal because it provides more than one way to communicate with people. There is Instant messaging, where you can send files through a text box to another party. Uploading and downloading pictures.
